Empowering a Younger Generation
We are very proud to be associated with this charity. For a number of years, Yair Cohen was a trustee of Big voice London and for a number of years Cohen Davis Solicitors has been making financial donation to this social mobility project.
Big Voice London, is a social mobility charity which is very kindly supported by (but independent from) the UK Supreme Court. Through this highly motivating project, which has already touched the lives of more than 1000 young people, together with our clients, we do our bit to empower young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to take part in creating legal policy that will positively impact them and their peers, and encourage them to break through traditional boundaries and rid themselves of limiting beliefs that otherwise might hold them back from achieving their full potentials.
Big Voice London ‘Model Law Commission’ is one the projects which is particularly close to our hearts, involving a simulated law reform project inspired by a United Nation’s initiative that take place around the world. Sixth formers are given an opportunity to learn about the UK's legal institutions and to engage with cutting edge legal policy. The height of the project is the presentation to Parliament, by the students, of their final draft of new proposed laws.
In 2013 and 2014 Big Voice London's young students presented to Parliaments a number of amendments to laws concerning internet and social media, including a new Revenge Porn Law, which was later adopted by Parliament and turned into what is now known as the Revenge Porn Law under section 33 of the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015 (Disclosing private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress).
Each one of us at Cohen Davis Solicitors is committed to contributing to our community by sharing our vast amount of knowledge of the internet and internet laws with the younger generation and to empowering people, whatever their background might be, to create a self-fulfilling future for themselves and for those around them.
